Please remember that stock photography is a different breed than any other type of photography. This photo might not ever be featured in a magazine, bought to be framed, or any other great honor. But what it is, is pure potential in the hands of any capable artist. That's why I stock. This photo is just a resource to be used in the making of something new and wonderful. Also, this is SOOC - absolutely no tweaking or manipulating was done to this image.
Perfect for stock! If I want a sunset or ocean reference then I don't need a foreground with a boat or a tree or a building. I don't need a level horizon or colours balanced. I need nice big clear expanses of sea and sky so I can add my own bits and bobs. You already know that, but I'm commenting for the benefit of any others that come this way and don't know what stock is. Congratulations on the DD
Thank you very much for adding your thoughts! The ones who commented negatively don't use stock, so they're not looking at the stock photos as potential or resources. They think they're looking at finished capital "P" Photography. And in this case, that's definitely not finished! I tossed it into Photoshop, but though "nah, being lazy - they can fix the horizon!" and so uploaded it SOOC
I hope you saw that I have other beach photos with no land (and I have more I can upload, if you're interested - some daylight, some evening like this) Thank you again!
I get a bit defensive of stockers, before I found DA I was stuck with drawing from my own photos or Google Images (I know, naughty). Being able to use photos for reference with the permission of the copyright holder is fantastic, and being able to do it for free is just... more fantastic! I am so grateful to you all that I get really, really irate when people post negative comments on stock. I mean, you're not charging a fee for this so what's to complain about? Like you say I don't think they can possibly understand what these images are for (though I bet some of them favourite photomanips without a second thought to where the material came from). Grrr I had a look through your gallery and there's lots in there I think I'll be using. Thank you for the offer of more material, I feel spoiled for choice already but I'll give you a shout if I think you can help me with even more and of course I'll let you know and link you once I've used your images
